Fashion & Shopping in Munich
It's no secret that the people of Munich possess one of the greatest purchasing powers in all of Europe, and with hordes of shopping malls all competing for stakes in their wealth, expat shopaholics will find no shortage of places to splash out their cash.
Malls in the real sense are settled a little beyond the city centre and offer a huge number of shops of all complexion. Thus one finds there beside clothing shops, supermarkets and food discount shops also sports shops and toy shops.
In Munich there are four large shopping malls, each with some 120 shops. They are: the OEZ Olympia Shopping Centre, the Riem Arcaden, the Einkaufs-Centrum Neuperlach (pep) and the Pasing Arcaden. Besides the three large malls, there is a number of smaller malls (Einkaufszentren).
Regarded as the most elegant shopping malls in Munich, Fünf Höfe spans over some 17,500 sqm, this architectural synthesis of the arts presents a mix of fashion, lifestyle, art and enjoyment and attracts more than seven million visitors every year. The Fünf Höfe (Five Courts) complex offers a total of 64 exclusive shops, restaurants, bars and specialty stores as well as displays of culture at the Kunsthalle of the Hypo-Kulturstiftung and the Galerie Wittenbrink.
In the Olympia Einkaufszentrum it is not only pleasant to go on a stroll, rummage around and try on clothes, but also to enjoy a gourmet meal to your heart's content. Whether fish or meat, vegetables or pasta, German cuisine or exotic culinary delights – the gastronomic choice in the OEZ is diverse and attracts the gourmet into the world of shopping.
Convenient and varied – that is how the Riem Arcaden presents itself in the Trade Fair City. With its more than 128 shops and restaurants the shopping centre represents one of the most popular shopping centres in the east of Munich. Within three floors the Riem Arcaden offer a large variety of very attractive stores which invite you to take a look around and shop in a relaxing atmosphere.
